“The burden you claimed I was”
Gossip with the stonners in the alleys
Trade tales with the hookers on the side streets
Paint the town Red with the same hands you used to rub my feet
Run and scream it from the hilltops
With the voice you serenaded me to sleep
Whisper my secrets in the bars
Bartering for drugs in and out of passing cars
Bright lights flashing
Heart beats pounding as you out run the cops
Pumping poison into your system until one day your heart stops…
A life on the sly
Another night another guy
Yet when my memory resurfaces
You find ways to make our time seen worthless
another pill another bump wash it down with a swig can’t pass out before sexing an infected pig
When old friends see you in your current state you can tuck your shirt proudly in your pants and say you left because of the burden you claim I am
A false sense of self worth as you lie with The scum of the earth
The burden that proved your rumours false
The burden that healed her wounds with salt
The burden the let it all be her fault
And when people asked her she proudly lied
A small price to pay to sever a tie
She knew her heart would never mend
And wisely rejected your empty offer to remain a friend
That burden…
Like a Phoenix arose from the ashes
Emerging above, your lies, betrayal and treason
and flew herself into a brand new season.
There is one thing we have in common we can both tell a good lie, accept no one questions a grieving widow with tears rolling down her eyes.
